Area Information - New Haven, CT The town of New Haven in south Central Connecticut, in New Haven County covers 21.1 square miles and is home to approximately 128,360 residents. The first settlement was made in 1638 by a group of Puritans and was incorporated in 1784. New Haven is the commercial center of the region and the home of Yale University. It is best known for its cultural attractions largely because of the influence of Yale. The town has its own symphony orchestra, several legitimate theaters, and many museums and historic preservations.
